Art Yarn: Beautiful in form & function

Yarn maker & fibre artist Michelle Snowdon crafts & sculpts award-winning skeins of yarn, each with unique personality, beauty & fine craftsmanship.
Fresh, inspiring Art Yarn designs may be used as a textile medium for knitting, crochet or weaving, and also as a sculptural object to wear or display as a centerpiece in a vase on your table.

What can you do with one single skein of Art Yarn?
Intuitive one-off yarn designs encourage makers to veer beyond traditional uses for yarn. They challenge our approach to using yarn, threshing a path to new creative experiences. We are often approached with the question of how to use Art yarn.
![]() | Our handmade yarns are exciting textile supplies for contemporary knitting, crochet, weaving & textile craft.. but, that's not all! Skeins of Art Yarn are objects of beauty that do not need to be worked with, knit or crochet, to be functional.. |
Art Yarn may also be used as sculptural textile art for your home and everyday use. Jewellery for your home, Art Yarn gives tactile visual appeal when hung from a picture hook, when coiled around a fruit bowl or adorning a vase. Let Art Yarn speak for itself! Take a macro view:
The yarn will reveal it's best application, if you take the time to look closely at it.
When you consider working with Art Yarn, look closely at the thread. Within every inch of yarn there may be a beautiful textural element that could be emphasized, for example, by inserting yarn-overs when knitting large textural elements. The yarn may be jam-packed with stunning passages of texture & colour that it would be a shame to knot with knit or crochet stiches.. perhaps weave or felt into scarves, or you could "do" nothing to it... If you like the yarn as it is, use it to tie back your curtains, make a garland for your wall or christmas tree, or stitch onto a garment as an accent. Let the process of working with the yarn reveal the outcome. |

Hand-dyeing:
Hand dyed colours are by nature "living" and therefore will not be identical, even within the batch. Colourways vary on different fiber-types.
Natural vegetable dyes without harsh mordants, non-toxic food-grade dyes, or lightfast/washfast acid dyes are used for wool. Plant fibers are dyed with natural vegetable dyes or washfast fiber-reactive professional dyes.
We use wise water-management dye methods, and dispose of minimal waste particles thoughtfully.
Enjoy wooldancing!
